HOW DO I USE A FRANKI CUP?
A Franki Cup is easy as pie once you get comfortable with yourself and know what your vagina and cervix feels like. Simply wash your hands, use one of our folds and insert the cup. Your cup can safely stay in 8-12 hours and holds between 3-5 tampons worth of blood depending on which cup size you have.
When you are ready to empty simply remove, empty your blood, wipe or rinse and reinsert. Easy as peasy!
IS IT MESSY?
We aren’t going to lie to you. We don’t think cups are messy but you may find that your first few times until you have gotten the hang of the correct technique, there may be a bit of spillage. It is also worth noting that you will get up close and personal with your blood as when you remove it there will be blood in your cup, duh!
But this is a good thing, it means you get to know your flow better. Emptying a cup shouldn’t be messy. When removing your cup the key is to remove it in an upright position slowly so the blood stays in the cup. You may find there is a bit of blood on the outside of your cup and that may be from when you removed your cup last. It is just the remainder of the blood from your vaginal wall.
IS IT UNCOMFORTABLE?
Nope, you won’t even know you are wearing one. Once placed properly you shouldn’t have any discomfort or feeling of wearing one. If the stem is bothering you because you have a lower cervix you may want to trim it at the base of the cup under the ridges and file it down. But remember your cervix does move up and down during your cycle. So if you are a Frankettes that has a yoyo for a cervix just simply flip your cup inside out on your low cervix days so you get the best of both worlds.
WHAT IF I HAVE FORGOTTEN TO EMPTY MY CUP AFTER 12 HOURS?
We have had a lot of Frankettes message through panicked because it’s been two days and they simply just forgot they were wearing a cup and wondering if something will happen to them. It’s an easy thing to do because they are so comfortable and if your flow is light your cup is still at capacity to handle more blood flow. But don’t worry, because your cup collects the blood and doesn’t get absorbed with other materials there is no risk of any serious implications. If you are worried just simply give your GP a call or visit, but a forgotten cup shouldn’t give you any issues. Just remove it as soon as you realise it and for peace of mind you might want to give your vagina a breather! Although not necessary.
HOW DO I CLEAN?
Cleaning your cup is easy. You can use a mild soap or our Franki Wash to clean your cup in between uses. It is also safe to remove your cup give it a wipe or a rinse and reinsert.
We also have some On the Go Franki Wipes to keep in your bag if you ever get caught without running water.
It is also important to note that your cup MUST be sterilised in between cycles. So at the beginning and end of each menstrual cycle.
There are several methods of doing this.
You can simply boil your cup for 5 minutes
2. Use our Franki Pop Up Steriliser which is a convenient microwaveable option
3. or our Franki Steamer. Our Frankettes love the steamer as its a device specially designed for cleaning your cup which means your cup will have it’s own dedicated steriliser. No more using your kitchen where your family and friends are wondering what on earth you are cooking for dinner tonight? Cup soup anyone?!
CAN I SWIM WITH A CUP?
Absolutely. This is the beauty of a period cup. You can literally do anything, anywhere for prolonged periods of time with a period cup. Because it gives longer protection than pads or tampons it means you get more time to do the things you love without worrying about changing every few hours. Oh and did we mention mess free bed sheets and long sleep ins on your heavy days will now be bliss! No more waking up to a scene of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
